The other night I sat down at my computer to scroll through local business directories. I was confident that I was going to find an example of a welcoming and inclusive activity and I didn’t have to look too far.
I stumbled across www.ourbigearth.com and found an amazing activity that is not only inclusive and healthy, it’s free!! NeighbourWood Walks
After a festive holiday season, it’s always tricky to get the family motivated to get back on a schedule, head out to regular events and plan ahead to spend time with friends new and old. That’s why we like to kick off the Winter session of our NeighbourWood Walks each year at the beginning of January – giving us all a bit of fun, nature-focused motivation to get back in the groove.
We have a great session planned full of morning adventures that are generally in sheltered locations that are friendly to the drizzle of Winter. This is always one of our favorite times for NeighbourWood Walks because the birds are so active and there is lots of small wildlife along the trails.
All walks are at 10:00 a.m. Wednesdays and are open to kids and families of all ages.
Here is the complete schedule for the Winter 2011 session:
Jan. 12 – Lazo Marsh (bring seeds to feed the birds)
Jan. 19 – MacDonald Woods Nature Park
Jan. 26 – Seal Bay Swamp Loop (a witches butter walk)
Feb. 2 – Puntledge Park Loop
Feb. 9 – The Northeast Woods at Highland Secondary
Feb. 16 – Oyster River Nature Park
Feb. 23 – Miracle Beach Forest Trail
March 2 – The Filberg Lodge and Park
